During the processing of a forward order, several steps take place at the warehouse stage, including order acknowledgment, picking, packing, and finally shipping the items. However, a problem arises when an order item, which has not yet been packed and can be at any stage prior to that, gets cancelled. This situation creates complications as the subsequent steps for this item are blocked since there is no need to proceed with packing it. The item is put aside, leading to a manual burden of reintegrating it into the system. There is a risk that the item may also get lost during this process before inventory synchronisation.
Additionally, the warehouse may mistakenly categorise the item as a return order item, causing inconsistency in the forward order status and the returns section. To address this issue, there should be a provision in place to prevent the cancellation of an order before it has been packed. This measure aims to reduce the occurrence of items being lost due to sidelining and eliminate the inconsistency in item status between the order and returns sections.
